RUBENS, PAUL ALFRED
RUBENS, PAUL ALFRED (1875–1917), playwright and composer. Born in London, the son of a stockbroker, Rubens was educated at Winchester and Oxford. He wrote lyrics and librettos, for which he often composed musical settings. His stage successes, mainly written in collaboration, include Lady Madcap (1904), Miss Hook of Holland (1907), The Balkan Princess (1910), and The Girl from Utah (1913). From 1912 until his death, he was the principal composer for London's Gaiety Theatre. He died of tuberculosis at the age of only 41. -ADD. BIBLIOGRAPHY: ODNB online.
